#12DaysofGiveaways Day 8: Kayleigh Malcolm KISS OF ICE #Romance

(Snowy Knights)

Alice loves life as a geothermal engineer, searching the globe for her next adrenaline thrill. Falling down a crevice into a glacier and finding a frozen Viking of a man was an adventure she never saw coming.

Erik pissed off the wrong witch and she cursed him. Every living thing he touches…freezes. His only escape was to hide away and hope the curse died with the witch. The gorgeous woman who finds him is everything he’s ever craved, but he can never have.

Can Alice and Erik learn how to break the curse before it’s too late or will the ice freeze their chance for love?

The ice continued to break, creating a massive racket in the enclosed space. Afraid she might have set off a chain reaction, she hobbled back along the wall and shone her flashlight down the narrow passage she’d entered through. Assured that her exit was still safe, she swung the beam of light back to the ice man. The ice continued to crack and break off until his entire body was exposed. Deafening silence fell around her again, broken by the odd shard pinging off the floor.

“Oh, my God. Please don’t be cursed and come back to haunt me, okay? It was an accident.” Alice kept up her talking simply because the sound was comforting in light of what was happening. Curiosity dragged her closer to him; now that the ice was gone, she could see details the ice had hidden.

Thankfully, the massive man didn’t tip toward her like she feared he might. She had a flash of him falling to the ground and shattering into a thousand pieces…eeewww. His skin was mottled a bluish white, and ice crystals sparkled in his hair and in the beard that hid most of his face. His clothes didn’t look as ancient as she expected. Her earlier Viking theory didn’t hold up under the obvious zipper running up the front of his coat. A large wooden medallion hung around his neck; runic symbols were carved around the outside edge, but the inside looked like a stone might have been mounted there at some point.

“Dude, how did you get here? Were you murdered? Did you slide down the same hole I did?” Angling her head, she peered up under the hair in his face. A dark beard covered his jaw and cheeks, ice crystals clinging to the strands. He fascinated her. “I wish I knew your story. If…when…I get out of here I’m going to figure out who you are.” She wouldn’t allow herself to believe anything other than she would find a way out. Then she’d write an article about her discovery, and go on another adventure.

She leaned closer, sliding her fingers over the edges of the large pendant resting against his chest. The angle of her light shifted, and her eyes focused on the pattern the glare had hidden. “Holy shit.” Pulling off her mitten again, she stood up and dug into her pocket for her good luck charm. There were distinctive similarities between the odd-shaped stone and the indentations in the pendant.

Once the idea took root, crazy as it was, she had to check. Sliding the crystal over the wooden medallion, she gently twisted and turned it looking to see if it would actually match up. Her fingers felt chilled, but not enough to stop her, especially when she felt the piece slide into place. It was like a Meerschaum Pipe, but how had the stone found its way to South America when it belonged on the pendant of a man frozen in the Arctic? Fate? Destiny? Alice had been lucky enough to experience a few mystical things while she traveled through the Amazon, but this topped every experience to date. Her mind boggled at all the possible paths these objects had traveled.

Despite the serendipity of the situation…Nothing happened.

“Shit, that’s anticlimactic.” Her words echoed around her in the room, “and it doesn’t help me solve a single thing.” As her last word bounced around the space, she realized that something had changed. The insulated vacuum surrounding her had dissipated. Her heart rate increased, and she stepped away from the large figure in front of her. “As if you had something to do with the echo in here, my ears must have popped or something.”

I wonder what color his eyes were. She stared at his face—the beard covered a lot, but she could make out high cheekbones and his nose had a slight crook to it as if it had been broken. The fabric of his coat was frozen stiff, and she wondered what his skin would feel like. He looked so real and perfectly preserved. It was almost as if his eyes would open at any moment. He reminded her a lot of the hot man bun guy she’d seen pop up on her Facebook feed. Before her fingers touched the strands of hair on his face, something gripped her arm. Between heartbeats, she flicked her gaze down to the hand gripping her wrist over her coat and back up to a pair of incredible emerald green eyes.

#12DaysofGiveaways Day 7: Nicole Morgan STORM OF SEDUCTION #Romance

(Snowy Knights)

Lori Hammond wanted for nothing. As the only heir to her family fortune she’d learned at a young age she only need ask for whatever she desired. All the money in the world hadn’t gotten her the one thing in life that she’d wanted most, Kevin Preston.

As the head of The Gilpin Search and Rescue Team, Kevin knows the dangers that a Colorado blizzard can bring. And with one looming closer to their patch of the Rocky Mountains he and his team prepare for the worst winter storm to hit their county in decades.

Hearing of the blizzard, Lori concocts a scheme to get exactly what she wants. But, will her plan be the thing that brings them together? Or will the rewards not be worth the risk as their very survival hangs in the balance?

Lori Hammond threw the items into her suitcase as quickly as she could. She mentally ticked off every item on her to-pack list as she went through her closet. With warm socks, turtlenecks, and of course, her all-important red teddy which always had a way of making Kevin weak in the knees, she was just about finished.

“Lori, this is a bad idea. You know that, right?”

She glanced over at her sister, doing her absolute best not to roll her eyes in annoyance. The last thing she needed was to be lectured by her boringly responsible, and annoyingly always right, big sis.

“I’m not kidding, Lori. This is a very bad idea. Have you even thought this through? What about the ‘what ifs’?”

Shaking her head, she answered. “I really don’t need this right now, Stacey.”

“Fine. If you’re not going to be reasonable…” Stacey reached into her pocket and pulled out her cell phone. “Maybe I should just call Kevin now and warn him of your extremely bad plan.”

“You wouldn’t dare!”

“Wouldn’t I? One of us has to act rationally. And as usual, it’ll probably have to be me.”

“Damn it, Stac. This is my life! Mine! Can’t you just stay out of it? For once!”

“Funny, I seem to recall you saying these exact same things every other time you concocted one of your ridiculous schemes. And despite my numerous objections, you went ahead anyway.” Stacey crossed her arms and offered up a look of disapproval. “And tell me, little sis, just how did those other plans work out for you?”

Lori glared at her sister. Partly angry for butting into her business, and partly because she knew her sister was right. Her previous attempts to win Kevin back had gone horribly wrong. She hardly needed a reminder of that.

“This time will be different.”

Stacey shook her head and muttered something quietly that Lori couldn’t understand. Not that she was sure she wanted to hear it, anyway.

“Come on, sis. Please. I’m begging you to not do this right now. Just let me do what I have to and stay out of it this time.” She glanced at her watch and added, “I really have to go now if I’m going to make it to the cabin before the weather turns even nastier.”

“Damn it, Lori.” Stacey crossed the room in a huff and placed her hands on Lori’s shoulders. “Fine. I’ll stay out of it. Just promise me you’re going to be careful.”

“I will be. I promise. Besides, I’m not going into this completely blind. I have long johns on underneath my jeans. I’m wearing two shirts, and I have my thick parka and winter gloves. I’ll be fine.”

“Yes, because that’s all I’m worried about, you getting cold.” Stacey rolled her eyes.

“Kevin loves me. This will work.”

“I’m pretty sure you said that last time. And the time before that, and the time before –.”

“Stop!” Lori put an end to her sister’s never-ending point.

“Ugh. I swear, it’s no wonder Mom has so many gray hairs.”

“I’m a saint.” Lori smiled.

“What you are, is a pain in the ass,” Stacey shrugged before continuing, “but I love you anyway.”

“Love you, too.”

The two hugged, and Lori assured Stacey a few more times before heading out to her car. The wind had already kicked up quite a bit since the last time she was out, and even putting her suitcase in the backseat proved to be a challenge, with her hair whipping around her face like a blindfold.

She heard the faint voice of her sister, barely audible with the howling sounds from the storm thrashing through their canyon.

“What?” Lori yelled back.

“Be careful!” Stacey urged again.

“I’ll be fine, but I’ve got to go.”

“Please, promise me you’ll call me if he doesn’t show!”

Lori pretended not to hear the last part, and slid behind the wheel of her Pathfinder. She understood that her sister meant well, and knew their bond meant there wasn’t a thing they wouldn’t do for one another, but this was one of those times she wished Stacey would just let her be.

#12DaysofGiveaways Day 6: Gracie Meadows WINTER’S STORM #Romance

(Snowy Knights)

Born to a life of privilege, Winter Stevens is ripped from her entire world by a secret she’s not willing to give up. In a small run down cabin in the middle of nowhere, the past blasts back into her life in the form of the deliciously enticing, Jules Brennon, and threatens to reveal the secrets she’s protecting.

Jules spends his life in a solitary cabin in the woods, content with only his ax for company. When the long-vacant cabin nearby is rented out, he’s forced to endure a neighbor. Never in a million years did he expect it to be Winter.

A blustery cold night forces these two together causing secrets to be spilled, and Jules to get tangled up in Winter’s Storm.

Jay pulled up to Aunt Opal’s cabin. It wasn’t so bad looking from the front, he knew better. The roof was shabby from the last big storm they had, and if he knew his Aunt, she hadn’t ordered more wood, which meant the sound coming from the back was someone trying to cut some more. Looking at the half a pile of old logs, he knew it wouldn’t be enough for the storm, let alone the winter. Good thing he brought some to help them until they could put an order in. However, if he could have his way, it would be telling them to high tail it back into town and stay there, it was safer, warmer, and he wouldn’t have to deal with them if the roof caved in with all the heavy snow floating down on top of it all.

Wood in hand, Jay walked around the back, stepping over the falling logs before watching a small woman raising an axe that looked to be ten years old, and dull as dirt splitter pieces of a small log sitting on the base. God, what was this woman thinking. One, she couldn’t cut wood with that thing. It would only get stuck, and too, she needed bigger pieces to cut up, and three, she was going to hurt herself holding an axe like that. Stupid damn movies made it look easy and that anyone could do it but just lifting and bringing it down. There was a right way to chop wood without hurting one’s self. No, they have men who don’t know the woods from a hole in their ass.

He watched as she did it over and over again, not making any real progress with the one single log she had been working on. At this point, it would have been easier just to burn the whole long instead.

However, something about her was vaguely familiar, he just couldn’t put his finger on it. He stood still to see what she would do next, but when she brought the axe down again, he couldn’t stop the landing. Her hands were placed all wrong, and as the axe made contact, she yelled out in pain. Dropping the wood in his hand, he ran over to her.

“You okay?” As he got closer, she turned to look at him. Those eyes. Bright green eyes pierced through him, freezing him in place.

Her face went pale, she held her hand as a piece of wood stuck out of it. The axe was old, which meant the handle was too. It had a crack and when it made contact it went up and into her hand. Sadly, he learned that mistake himself a long time ago.

“Jay? What are you doing here?” Her voice shook, and he didn’t know if it was a shock, pain, or something else that made her look like she was going to be sick.

“Aunt Opal sent me to check on her latest victim. I take it you’re staying here?” He glared at her, unable to hide his disdain for the woman who haunted his dreams and played him like a chump.

“Aunt? Shit. I didn’t know. Hell, Jay, I didn’t even know your last name until that meeting. Look, I gotta go get this out. Can I call you or something later? I needed to get inside.” She dodges him, trying to head straight into the cabin, he wasn’t going to have any of it until he looked inside and make sure the roof and the fireplace are okay to stay in. The last thing he needed was her banging on his door because she was cold or broke a nail.

She practically ran to the door and shut it behind him. He turned the handle and instantly, she froze, blocking his way in.

“Look, I’m good okay. I just gotta get better at chopping wood. Thanks for stopping by.”

“Let me see inside, and take a look at your hand.” The piece of wood was still lodged inside, and she was doing her best not to make it such a big deal.

“No. No, I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”

“Come on Winter, I won’t bite. Let me in woman.”

“I, umm, you see. I can’t. I got, well…” but she didn’t stop him as he pushed his way inside and he froze just looking around the place. It was clean if not slightly cluttered with… toys. Spinning around he looked at her confused. When was the last time toys had been in this house?

My Darling,
I went to the door today and the postman delivered a “Partridge in a pear tree.” What a thoroughly delightful gift. I couldn’t have been more surprised. You’re an angel.
With all my love and devotion,

All my love,

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 16, 1986

Dear Fred,
Oh! Aren’t you the extravagant one? Now I really must protest. I don’t deserve such generosity as “Three French hens.” They are just darling but I must insist, you’ve been too kind.

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.

Dec. 17, 1986

Dear Fred,
Today the postman delivered “Four calling birds.” Now really, they are beautiful but don’t you think enough is enough? You’re being too romantic.

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 18, 1986

Dearest Fred,
What a surprise! The postman just delivered the “Five golden rings”; one for every finger. You’re just impossible, but I love it. Frankly, all those birds squawking were beginning to get on my nerves.
All my love,

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 19, 1986

Dear Fred,
I couldn’t believe my eyes this morning as I walked out onto the front porch and there were “Six geese a laying” on my front steps. So you’re back to the birds again – huh? Those geese are huge. Where will I ever keep them? The neighbors are complaining and I can’t sleep through the racket. I love your thoughtfulness, but –
Please Stop!

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 20, 1986

What’s with you and those fucking birds??? Today I received “Seven swans a swimming.” What kind of a goddamn joke is this? These birds shit all over the house and they never stop with that awful goddamn racket. I can’t sleep at night and I’m a nervous wreck.
Stop your laughing damn you! It’s not funny. Just knock it off with those fucking birds, OK?????

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 21, 1986

OK Buster,
I think I prefer the birds. What the hell am I going to do with “Eight maids a milking??” It’s not enough with all those birds and the 8 maids milking, but they had to bring their goddamn cows! There is shit all over the lawn and I can’t even move in my own house. Just lay off me, smartass!!

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 22, 1986

Hey Shithead,
What are you??? Some kind of sadist??? Now I’ve got “Nine pipers playing” and Christ do they play! They haven’t stopped chasing those maids since they’ve arrived this morning. The cows are getting upset and they’re stepping all over the screeching fucking birds. What the hell am I going to do?? The neighbors have already started a petition to have me evicted.
You’ll get yours, bastard,

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 23, 1986

You Rotten Prick,
Who in hell needs “Ten ladies dancing??” I can’t imagine why I call these sluts “ladies.” They’ve been balling the pipers all night long. Now the cows can’t sleep and all the goddamn racket around here has given them diarrhea. My living room is a river of shit! The Commisioner of Bldgs. has subpoenaed me to give cause why the building should not be condemned!
I’m sicking the police on you, asshole!
One who means it!!!

Miss Agnes McHolstein
69 Cash Ave.
Beaver Valley, CO
Dec. 24, 1986

Listen Fuckhead,
What’s with the “Eleven lords a leaping” on those maids and ladies??? Some of these poor broads will never walk again. The pipers ravaged the maids, gang-banged the ladies, and now are committing sodomy on the cows. All 23 birds are dead. They were trampled to death in the orgy. I hope you’re satisfied, you rotten vicious bastard!
I hate your guts, dumbshit,

#12DaysofGiveaways Day 5: Rose Nickol SNOW ANGEL #Romance

(Snowy Knights)

Kasey Danvers is on the run. Her step-father has finally pushed her to the edge, and now her only plan is to drive until the car runs out of gas. It’s just her luck that it happens in the middle of a freak snowstorm.

Fate intervenes, when Bryce Cromby comes to her rescue, warming her body and soul as he protects her from the storm. But can he protect her when her step-father comes for her again?

Even though Bryce and Hugh were busy with the horses, Bryce looked forward to the calls from Kasey. So far everything had gone has planned. She had made the long drive to Denver without incident and was checked into the hotel.

“The hearing is at nine, and if everything goes as planned, Joe thinks we should be out of there by ten-thirty at the latest. I should be back on the road by noon and home no later than eight.”

Joe was the attorney Bryce had hired to help facilitate the paperwork. The only wrench in the plan was Larry. He was still fighting the transfer. Bryce wished he could have gone with Kasey. He didn’t like the idea of her facing Larry without him, but it couldn’t be helped. He had to be at the ranch. Joe would have to protect her where he couldn’t.

The last of the horses was having trouble birthing her foal. Bryce and Hugh had called the vet to help, and things were not going well. When things finally settled down enough for Bryce to check his phone, it was after noon. “Have you heard from Kasey yet?” Hugh asked, coming out of the shower.

“No, and she should have called an hour ago. I’m going to call her.” When Kasey didn’t answer, Bryce started to panic.

“Call Joe; maybe the proceedings took longer than they expected. They might still be in court, and she can’t answer. These things get delayed all the time. It’s hopefully nothing.” Hugh knew how worried his brother was. He was a little worried himself.

Bryce made the call while Hugh waited.

“Well?” he asked as Bryce started dialing another number.

“I got Joe’s answering service. They are going to try and track him down. They have someone at the courthouse who can check to see if they are still in session and call me back.” Bryce paced nervously waiting for the call. He hated waiting and wasn’t very good at it. “I’m going out to check on the new foals. I can’t wait in here.”

He had finished checking the horses and was walking to the house when the phone rang. It was Joe. “Bryce, what can I do for you?”

Bryce quickly explained that he hadn’t heard from Kasey and he was getting worried. “I left her in her car about one. I assume she was going for lunch before heading back. She’s probably on the road. You know cell service can be sketchy through the mountains. I’m sure she’ll call you when she can. I’ve got to run. I’ve got another case this afternoon.” Joe disconnected the call.

Bryce thanked him before hanging up the phone, but he had a bad feeling. Something wasn’t right. He explained the situation to Hugh when he got in the house. “I heard from Joe. Court took a little longer than he anticipated. Her stepfather caused quite the ruckus and things became very heated.”

“So what happened?”

“He finally signed the papers, but was still threatening Kasey. She got very upset. Joe thought she was going for lunch and to calm down before heading back. I’m going to keep trying. She might not have cell service depending on where she is.”

Two hours later, Bryce still hadn’t heard from Kasey. Unable to sit and do nothing, he and Hugh decided to start out and see if they could find her on the road.

“Let’s call the sheriff first. He might have an idea,” Hugh said as they left.

Ron suggested using the GPS on Kasey’s phone to track her. “At least then you’ll have an idea of where to look.”

Bryce wasn’t happy about the detour to the sheriff’s office, but if it helped him find Kasey sooner, it would be worth it. Ron had the information waiting for them when they arrived. “I don’t know whether this is good or bad. The GPS in your SUV and her phone both show the same location in Arvada.”

“Arvada? What the hell. She shouldn’t be anywhere near there.” It was after five in the evening and Kasey should have been somewhere close to Grand Junction if she had left when they thought she had. Bryce couldn’t understand what was going on.

“Don’t rush to conclusions. I’ve already sent a message to my friend in Arvada. He will have one of his officer’s check into the situation. I have a helicopter you and Hugh can use if you want to go there,” Ron said, explaining the arrangements he had made for Bryce and Hugh to travel to the Denver area.

#12DaysofGiveaways Day 4: April Zyon ALASKA’S SNOWY FATE #Romance

(Snowy Knights)

Christmas is looking rather bleak for recent divorcee, Alaska. Spending her vacation with her family will truly test the limits of her sanity, but she’s determined to push through and get some killer slope time in the snowy mountains.

Drake is looking forward to spending the holiday season hunkered down with his polar bear clan, rest and recouping from his constant training for the Olympics. When he and his clan-mates are called out on a dangerous search and rescue mission he never dreamed he’d come face to face with his fated mate.

Saving Alaska from her car was only the beginning, and the pair find themselves in a dangerous cat and mouse game with someone determined to kill her. Is it Alaska’s Snowy Fate to find Drake and fall in love, only to die in the process?

“We have a call,” Drake shouted to his teammates, who were all lounging around the S&R house in various states of dress. “OnStar just called us in. Evidently, they have a car that crashed and the driver is non-responsive.”

“Fucking idiot for driving out in a blizzard.” Blaze grumbled as he pulled on a ratty pair of jeans. “I swear humans are all just as moronic now as they were when they crawled out of the ocean millions of years ago. Fucking useless.”

“Then why do you do the job?” Oliver asked, turning another page before marking the massive tome he was reading with an elegant silk bookmark. “Search and Rescue is just that. We search, and we rescue.”

“Because we are a clan, and we stick together. This was Drake’s call, and since he’s our Alpha, I follow.”

Drake growled at Blaze, “Then keep your hotheaded comments to your fucking self. Humans might not be as evolved as shifters, but you know as well as I do that one of them will be the missing piece of your soul. The Universe brought us here for a reason. I think that reason is for mating, and while my heart might be as frozen as the fucking tundra we live on, I know that Fate doesn’t make mistakes. Be patient.”

“You’ve been telling us that for a long fucking time, Drake. At least you have the snow games.”

“And you have racing, Blaze. Oliver has his books. We all have our things. But right now I need you suited up. OnStar pinged the SUV on Hangers Curve, but the satellite shows nothing and my gut is telling me it’s on the side of the mountain. Bring all our climbing equipment as well. This one is human. From the rental agency’s info, we are looking at a woman, early thirties.”

That perked Blaze up, Drake noticed. “Maybe she’s it. Maybe that’s why my bear is huffing and puffing. Come on, let’s go.”

Drake snorted. “Just get your shit. We need to be gone five minutes ago.”

Drake couldn’t stay any longer. He walked out of the lodge to the sounds of his men preparing. He got the sleds ready, as well as the large snow cat that he would have Oliver drive. Thankfully, Adam was already in the air and headed toward the mountain.

When Blaze and Oliver walked out, Drake was on one of the sleds. “Oliver, take the snow cat. Blaze, take the other ski sled. Let’s get going. We’re losing light as we stand here. OnStar’s reporting moans, but they still haven’t received a response otherwise. Adam is in the air and will let us know as soon as he has eyes on.”

“You sent him out in without me?” Blaze asked, stopping dead in his tracks.

Kilty Pleasures by Nancy Fraser @Goddessfish #Romance

GENRE: Erotic Romance

Ronan MacAlister’s return to Glencoe, Maine reignites every one of Aileen MacDougall’s adolescent fantasies.

Ronan is drawn to the beautiful Aileen, who now serves as the manager for his late uncle’s business ventures. However, it’s not her business acumen he’s after.

Will being trapped in a remote cabin lead to a happily-ever-after? Or, will they discover they have differences even kilty pleasures can’t overcome?

Ronan retrieved the bottle of cabernet from his uncle’s stash and pulled the cork. Aileen was giving him some enticing signals…at least it seemed like it. Given his body’s immediate reaction, he hoped he wasn’t reading her wrong.

He busied himself with building a fire from the logs and kindling in the basket beside the hearth. Once he’d finished, he crossed the great room and drew the curtains closed.

Setting a romantic mood, are you? Ronan gave his pesky conscience a nudge and turned the lock on the cabin door.

The soft ‘ding’ of the microwave proceeded the heavenly aroma of pungent spices. Aileen reached for dishes on the shelf above her head, the stretch of her arms outlining her curvy figure, lifting her lush bottom. His stomach growled with an appreciation that had little to do with food.

“So,” he asked, “what’s for lunch?”

“Beef stew, salad, and homemade biscuits with butter and honey. I put the kettle on for tea and there are sodas and bottled water in the fridge.”

“I’ve decanted the wine. It should go nice with the stew.”

She graced him with another of her smiles. “We can eat here at the table or over by the fire whichever you prefer.”

He nodded toward the low table and pillows in front of the fireplace. “Why don’t you take the food over? I’ll pour us some wine and be right behind you.”

They enjoyed their meal in a companionable silence. Like Aileen, the stew was complex with many layers of flavor. The simple salad was all business and the biscuits and honey a sweet ending. The meal, like the woman who’d made it, stirred his senses and begged to be tasted over and over again.

He set his dishes aside and pushed the table a few feet to the left. Relaxing back against the pillows, he pressed the wine glass to his lips and turned his attention to the sexy beauty sitting across from him.

The glow from the fireplace played off Aileen’s silken hair, turning the reddish blonde highlights to pure gold. He wanted nothing more than to wrap the gossamer strands around their naked bodies.

She took a sip of her wine and closed her eyes. When she darted her tongue out to catch an errant droplet on her lip he nearly lost the last increment of his composure. Not having her…all of her…was no longer an option.

#12DaysofGiveaways Day 3: TL Reeve SNOW BOUND

(Snowy Knights)

Amity Jones is in trouble. Her ex-boyfriend is stalking her and won’t let her go, no matter how many times she runs away. After his latest attempt at kidnapping her, she has to disappear, or else.

Lance Wingham, Alpha of the Rosewood pack isn’t expecting to find his mate in a ditch on the side of the road. Caring for her is easy. And, when Amity’s ex-boyfriend shows up looking for her, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her.

Will Amity be able to accept the wolf lurking under Lance’s skin, or will she once again be running scared?

I’ll always find you. Amity shot up in bed with a gasp. Pain ricocheted through her body, causing her to groan and reach for her head. The incessant throbbing returned with a vengeance, something she’d grown accustomed to. She peeled open her eyes, trying to figure out where the hell she was, but the bright light increased the sharp stabbing ache. The room spun momentarily, then righted itself as she tried again to figure out where she had ended up.

The last thing she remembered was the slick, icy road and a vehicle following too close behind her. Javier. Her heart started to pound. She needed to get out of there. She needed to run. He had found her. Yet, when she opened her eyes once more, the light, not as bright as before, made her realize she wasn’t home.

Where am I? The harder she tried to remember what happened, the more her brain put the brakes on her memories. She glanced down at her arm wrapped in a sling and noticed the gray T-shirt she wore. How in the world? On the table next to her sat a glass of water and two white pills. The idea of taking both didn’t sit well with her. She needed to be able to think and move if Javier showed up, or worse, waited for her somewhere in this house.

Amity took one pill, then pushed back the covers of the bed. Had she been so out of it, she hadn’t realized someone had undressed her and put her to bed? Her legs were dotted with bruises of various sizes. The hand print on her upper thigh from where Javier had grabbed her during their last fight, turned green and yellow around the edges. Tears stung her nose, and gathered in the corners of her eyes. How had her life become such a shit pile? Why her?

She had never thrown herself a pity party before, but now it seemed appropriate. She hurt from head to toe, and her injuries from the last attack hadn’t even healed before he came after her again. She ran a shaky hand through her hair and hissed when she came in contact with glass. Great. Just fucking great. Whoever had her hadn’t even cleaned her up. What the fuck is wrong with people.

The fight or flight instincts she’d relied on for the last six months kicked in. She needed to get dressed and get the hell out of there. Amity glanced over at the chair across from her and found a stack of clothes. They weren’t hers by any means, but they’d do in a pinch. And where do you think you’ll go? Her car had to have been trashed. Plus, she didn’t even know where it was. She didn’t have her purse or her phone, though the chance of it working was between slim and none.

A knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts. She covered herself and slipped down into the blankets, pretending to be asleep. The less she said, the better off she’d be in this situation, at least until she could get her bearings. The door opened and the heavy cadence of footfalls grew near. “I know you’re awake, Miss. I’m a friend.”

Bullshit. No one was her friend. They could be bought off by Javier and pumped for information on where she was and how she got there. She didn’t move.

“I’m Sheriff Lance Wingham. I found you last night on the side of Highway 35. You’re at my home. The doctor said you should be fine, and I see you’ve already taken one of the pain pills the doctor left. I brought a breakfast tray for you, if you’re hungry.”

Her belly gave an appreciative growl. She cursed her wayward stomach for giving her away. “Where’s Javier?”

She opened her eyes, ready to give him a tongue lashing about playing stupid, when she paused. The man was a sight to behold and overwhelming. Short sandy-blond hair framed ruggedly handsome features. His cool, gray eyes assessed her, while his full lips were pursed and the muscle at his jaw ticked with tension. Broad shoulders gave way to a tapered waist and legs build for power. Heat licked at her insides as arousal fluttered low in her belly. This man was dangerous, and she didn’t care. “Javier. He…he’s trying to kill me.” She dipped her head, unable to hold the man’s commanding stare. “I’m Amity…Amity Jones.”

“It’s good to meet you, Amity.” He sat on the edge of the bed, the tray of food still in his hands. “I haven’t found him yet. But he won’t get far.” He placed the tray in front of her. “Eat. You need your strength.”

She glanced at the platter on the tray before her and groaned. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, and potatoes. Along with juice and coffee. A home-cooked meal, something she hadn’t had in months. “Thank you. Where am I?” She grabbed a piece of bacon and began to eat. The involuntary moan falling from her lips embarrassed her, but if he noticed, he didn’t say a word.

“You’re in Rosewood.”

An image of a snow covered wooden sign flashed through her mind. “I saw the sign.”

“I’m guessing you hadn’t meant to stop here?”

“Well…the storm.” She shrugged. “I had to stop or get stuck in it.”

“You’ve been here three days.”

The bacon settled in her stomach like a lead weight. “Three days?”

“Caleb said to let you sleep as much as you needed. Darlin’, you looked rough when I got you here.”

The way “darlin’” rolled off his tongue had her insides turning to goo. “I see. And, my car?”

“Totaled. It’s a mangled pile of metal.”

Despair filled her. Now, what would she do? “Oh.”

“Thorne did happen to bring your bag. Is there anyone I can call for you?”

She shook her head. “No. I don’t have anyone.”

A low sound, almost like a growl emanated from him. Or at least she thought it had. “You’re alone?”

He cursed. “My home is your home. You may stay here if you wish. I’ll have Thorne assess your vehicle again. Maybe he can fix it or has something suitable to replace it with.”

“Thank you.” But where would she go? Even if she had a car, Javier was out there somewhere, waiting for her to make her next move. She glanced over at the man, then back down at her plate, as she began to eat again. “Do you have any idea of where Javier went?” She didn’t understand her willingness to trust this man in front of her. Javi paid off most of his friends with bribes and kickbacks. For all she knew, this man had been on the take too. Yet, when she met his gaze once more, all she saw in his gray depths was a sense of safety and warmth.

“I have my men scouring the area as we speak. If he’s still around here, we’ll find him.” He shifted closer to her and laid his hand on her leg. “You need not be afraid of me, or my deputies. We will protect you.”

Javier said the same thing to her in the beginning, before beating the shit out of her. “No disrespect, Lance, but I’ve heard it before, and look at the situation I’m in.”

He grunted. “Point taken.” Instead of backing up, he got into her personal space. His gaze locked with hers. His lips mere inches from her mouth. “I aim to prove you can trust me, Amity.”

Her breath hitched. The scent of his aftershave swirled around her, ensnaring her in the heady smell of wilderness and spice. She licked her lips and swore she heard that rumbled sound again. “Trust is hard to come by.”
