GENRE: Fantasy (with LGBTQ romance)

MediaKit_BookCover_CityOfHopeAndRuinEvery night the monsters hunt.

A city that is the whole world: Theosophy and her companions in the City militia do their best to protect the civilians from the monsters, but they keep crawling from the Rift and there’s nowhere to run. Theosophy knows she’ll die fighting. It’s the best kind of death she’s seen, and at least she can save lives in the meantime.

They say the Scarred carve you up while you’re still alive.

A village in the shadow of a forest: Refugees from the border whisper about the oncoming Scarred, but Briony can’t convince her brother to relocate his children to safety. Briony will do anything to protect them. She owes them that much, even if it means turning to forbidden magic.

When Theosophy and Briony accidentally make contact across the boundaries of their worlds, they realize that solutions might finally be within reach. A world beyond the City would give Theosophy’s people an escape, and the City’s warriors could help Briony protect her family from the Scarred. Each woman sees in the other a strength she lacks—and maybe something more.

All they need to do is find a way across the dimensions to each other before their enemies close in.

Excerpt:

Dean Prosody was pacing in her cramped office when Theosophy arrived. Her bayonet and whetstone lay forgotten on her desk.

Theosophy stopped just inside the door. “Sir?”

“He’s not in his quarters, and he took his spear,” said the dean, not looking at her.

Theosophy reached into her belt pouch and pulled out her double crystal, tuned to her partners. One side had gone dark, of course, but the other pulsed weakly. She could feel the direction of the pull—toward the ruins—but that meant nothing, surely he wouldn’t be such a complete…

“What did you say to him?” Dean Prosody demanded.

Theosophy shrugged.

“Nothing about avenging Rhetoric?”

“I should hope not,” she said. “I was a little busy fighting for my life. With one partner gone and the other just standing there…”

The dean gave her a look, blue eyes snapping.

“What? I let him mourn after. But he still let the third one get away, and almost got me killed. I had to say something.”

The dean sighed.

“There’s a reason I’m the longest-serving fighter. And it’s not because I’m nice.”

“About that, Theosophy…maybe you should consider stepping down.”

She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.

“I know you’re the reason a lot of these kids are still alive. But you’re turning sour. It’s not healthy.”

Theosophy grimaced. The thing was, staying alive the longest wasn’t any kind of mercy. It just meant everyone you used to know was dead.

From Fake to Forever by Jennifer Shirk #Romance @Goddessfish

MediaKit_BookCover_FromFakeToForeverGENRE: Contemporary Romance

Sandra Moyer’s preschool is struggling, so she reluctantly agrees to let super-famous actor Ben Capshaw research a role there. Ben’s always joking around, never serious, but there’s something about the buttoned-up, beautiful Sandra and her young daughter that makes him want to take life more seriously. But Sandra won’t trust him—what if it’s all an act, research for the role? As the lines between make-believe and reality blur, Ben will have to decide if love is worth casting aside the role of his life for a new role…that could last a lifetime.

Available from:

Amazon

Excerpt:

From the corner of her eye, Sandra Moyer noticed a tall, bearded man leaning against the playground fence and automatically tensed. Because she was a single mom and alone, her paranoid nature already labeled him a felon, although technically he was doing nothing wrong. In fact, come to think of it, he had a pretty nice body with those real-life Hulk arms and broad chest. She didn’t know what that made her for noticing something like that about a man she assumed was on some Family Watchdog list, but the phrase “cheap and desperate” came to mind.

Since when did I start ogling the physiques of strange men?

Her shoulders wilted as she brooded over that question. She obviously needed to get out more. She needed to just get out. The problem was she didn’t see herself doing that any time soon. Her self-esteem had hit rock bottom and hadn’t been able to locate its way back up since the day she’d found Steve cheating on her with one of his costars.

An unpleasant picture of her ex-husband lip-locked with a Julianne Moore–type redhead popped into her mind, and she shuddered.

Actors. Did their profession ever mesh with reality?

The answer to that was a resounding no. Unfortunately, she’d learned that one the hard way. Steve had even thought she’d understand the main reason he had the affair was for the publicity and what it could do for his career and income. Like that was supposed to make her feel so much better about it.

“Mommy, I want to play in the sandbox.”

Her daughter’s voice pulled her from those depressing thoughts, and she gratefully looked down. “Okay, honey. Just five more minutes, though.”

Hannah squealed and dashed through the playground as fast as her little legs could run. Sandra couldn’t help but smile. Life was so simple when you were four. The little things kept you happy. And why not? Four-year-olds didn’t think about paying the rent or overdue bills. Things that were constantly on her mind ever since she’d opened the preschool with her sister. No, the only thing you worried about at that age was whether Mommy would give you ice cream if you didn’t eat your string beans.

She’d kill for that kind of stress again.

Unfortunately, the thought of homicide had her eyes traveling back to the well-built man she’d been ogling earlier. He was tossing around a football with a young boy now. Nothing illegal, but something was off. She had a sixth sense when it came to protecting her daughter, and right now it was telling her something big. Like he’d just gotten out of prison. It must have been a whopper of a sentence, too, judging from the long, scraggly hair and the kind of beard and mustache Santa Claus would envy. She never made a habit of associating with men who looked liked convicts, but there was something familiar about him…

She doubted he had a child enrolled in her preschool. Story time at the public library? She highly doubted that, too. He didn’t exactly look like the loving Father Knows Best type, considering that fire-breathing skull on his calf wasn’t designed to instill tenderness. At least he was out spending time with his son, which was a lot more than what her daughter was getting from her own father.

As if her thoughts had been telepathically sent out, the man in question cast a lingering gaze over in her direction. And he smiled.

Oh. My. Goodness.

Oh, no, don’t even think about it. Don’t you dare come over here. She fumbled to put her sunglasses back on and almost punched out a lens. Please stay where you are. He’d better be a jolly person being his usual overly friendly self and not just leering at her. But she laid odds on the latter.

What was it with her? She could attract a creep from the next state over without even trying. A talent she’d gladly relinquish.

She flopped down on a bench. Opening her purse, she yanked out a book and hid her face behind it. If she pretended to be engrossed in reading, maybe the man would reconsider trying to strike up a conversation. Yeah, that’s all she needed—some ex-con cozying up to her.

Confident her glasses hid her eyes, she lowered the book a half inch and sneaked another peek. Tall, Dark, and Scraggly had his back to her now. Relief enveloped her. Thank goodness, she thought, slowly letting out a breath.

One deadbeat per lifetime was enough.

The Trouble with Misbehaving by Victoria Hanlen #Historical #Romance @Goddessfish

BB_TheTroubleWithMisbehaving_Banner copy

Love, Betrayal and Redemption

MediaKit_BookCover_TheTroubleWithMisbehavingCalista ‘CC’ Collins is used to being the talk of the town. With her scandalous past she’s learnt the hard way that a woman needs to be strong to get what she wants in a man’s world. And what she wants is the infamous Captain Beauford Tollier—roguish son of an earl, notorious blockade-runner and all-round knave of the seas.

However, Captain Beau is not one to be cajoled—he is done with the dangerous sea life and ready to follow the life of the straight and narrow. But with many powerful forces circling around him, Beau doesn’t stand a chance…

Excerpt:

“Since you burned my letters we still have much to discuss.”

He squared his shoulders. “I think not. Our brief association is at an end. I do not wish to be a part of your mad games. After the night before last—”

“After the night before last?”

“It seems best to allow you your distance.”

He heard a quick intake of breath and a rustle of silk. Her voice seemed to rise in pitch, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone what you almost did with crazy ol’ Miss Collins. But then you have lots of secrets, do you not, Captain Tollier? What’s one more?”

“I don’t know what you mean, nor do I care.” He started walking again.

“Looking at all these…lovely portraits, I can see why people whisper you’re the family’s cuckoo.”

Lurching around, he clenched his fists in an effort to control his temper. Not only did the insult shock, it cut into one of his earliest, deepest insecurities. He lowered his voice to a dangerous calm. “You are fortunate to be a woman, madam. Were you a man, such an insult might force me to call you out.”

She stood and gave him a look so sultry it almost begged him to teach her lessons of a different sort.

“Ah yes, call me out. And what should I call you?”

He turned to leave, hoping to prevent saying or doing something he’d regret. Before he’d taken two steps, C.C. said in a voice full of authority, “Mr. Wainwright. Perhaps Captain Scott? Or would it be Cornelius Dolan?”

The hairs on his neck stood straight out.

And they certainly don’t expect to find such bliss in each other’s arms when they finally give in to letting go and being free.

Excerpt:  Falling for Shock  CHAPTER ONE

“CUT!” the director called.
Oliver breathed a sigh of relief. He was in dire need of finding a bathroom; the straps of his flying harness were cutting into his full bladder. On the street below, the crew wasted no time disassembling set dressings and props. The cameramen turned off their equipment and congratulated themselves on a good day, while the dolly grips trudged the cameras down aluminum tracks. A twinge tightened in his groin and Oliver shifted, trying to redistribute the pressure. It was no use.

“Come on guys,” he grumbled, but he was thirty-feet in the air, who could hear him?

The more hustle and bustle beneath his booted feet, the more he was convinced they’d forgotten their superhero…again. With his thumb and forefinger in his mouth, he blew a shrill whistle. “Hey! Will someone get me down?”

Dean Clemens, the movie director, lifted his head to the sky. “Sorry, pal! Mike, let Ollie down.”

“Thank you!” Oliver called out and the rigging creaked and groaned as he slowly descended.

Wanderlust by Bernadette Marie @Goddessfish #Romance

BB_Wanderlust_Banner copy

MediaKit_BookCover_WanderlustGENRE: Contemporary Romance

Gia Gallow has traveled the world. Her wanderlust landed her in Georgia where she has created a life for herself away from the petty differences of relatives and domineering ex-lovers. Having settled in America, she has a successful business and dear friends—and the attention of both Dane and Russell Walker. Due to her own family’s dramas over dueling hearts, she might have to forget about her feelings for Dane to keep peace within the Walker family, but sometimes even running thousands of miles away can’t keep a heart from going after what the heart wants. And Gia’s heart wants Dane.

Excerpt:

Dane wasn’t sure why his coffee suddenly tasted so bitter. It might have been the way his brother was looking at Gia when they walked through the door, and she was laughing at what he’d said.

Perhaps it was because his attitude had been affected by it and there had been no reason for it.

The way Russ had referred to her as a goddess still burned his ears.

Dane’s mother orchestrated everyone through the kitchen, and they all managed to have full
plates of food when they were done. She’d managed to set enough chairs and tables, strung together, to house all the guests. He’d seen her do that at Thanksgiving too. He could hardly find enough room on his little table in his apartment to eat his microwave dinner.

“Eric and Susan, you sit there,” his mother pointed to chairs.

“Russ, you there. Gia you there. Dane you there,” she said pointing to three chairs near the end of the table which flowed into the living room.

“Let me take that for you,” Russell smiled at Gia and took her plate.

“Oh, thank you. You seem to come to my rescue for everything.”

“What can I say? I’m raised right.”

Dane let out a grunt, which had both of them turning to look at him. He simply forced a smile
and took his seat—after Russ pulled Gia’s seat out for her.

At least the food was excellent. Dane t listened to Pearl and Tyson tell stories about their
wedding on the beach at sunset and their honeymoon filled with snorkeling and hiking near the waterfalls.

It wasn’t that he didn’t like hearing the stories or the awws that came from every female in the room, but watching his brother lean into Gia, and her laughing at everything he said, seemed to be raking on his last nerve.

He took his plate into the kitchen for another helping of ham. He was a sucker for ham and tiny bagels. It was something he couldn’t explain.

“Does your family do this often?” Gia slid up next to him as he tried to delicately pull two pieces of ham apart.

Dane looked at her then at the table of family members who laughed and talked over one
another. He shrugged. “Yeah, I guess. Mom’s always putting together a brunch or a dinner.”
Gia eased her hip against the counter. “You seem uncomfortable around them all.”

“Nah, just all the gushy wedding stuff I guess.” She pursed her lips. “You are not a romantic?”
Was that a loaded question? “Sure. I mean I can be romantic. I just”

She laughed and rested her hand on his arm. “I am sure you are the kind of man who could
sweep any woman off her feet.”

Dane cleared his throat, only because he’d choked on the air he sucked in when she’d said that.
“I’m not too sure I’m very smooth with the ladies. My mind has been elsewhere for the past few
months.”

She nodded and picked up the serving spoon to ladle more fruit on to her plate.
“I understand. I still have some friends back home who will not speak to me because I moved away. I will admit before I left, I might have pushed them away.”

“Why?”

She shrugged. “So I would not be hurt by leaving.”

Maybe she did understand. “I get that. I think”

“Did Susan make those little bacon wraps with dates?” Russ pushed in between them. “I didn’t
see them, but dad has one on his plate.”

“Steal his then,” Dane said through gritted teeth.

“Lighten up.” Russ gave him a jab as he reached in front of Gia and grabbed the bacon on a
toothpick. “Looks like I just missed them the first time.” Russ ate the first one and then reached for another.

“Did you try these?” he asked Gia, holding it up to her mouth.

“Not yet,” she said as he clamped the bacon wrapped date in her teeth and pulled it from the toothpick.

Dane was sure he heard both himself and his brother sigh.

She gave them a collective wink and carried her plate to the table, now occupying a seat left
vacant by Pearl’s father who seemed to have disappeared.

“Could you be any more of a pig?” Dane finally took both pieces of ham and dropped them on his plate.

“Are you talking to me or the meat?”

“You,” he whispered gruffly. “You’re throwing yourself at her. It’s annoying.”
“And you’re not, so I don’t see the problem,” Russ argued as he returned to the table.

Dane stood there a moment trying to collect his thoughts. How had it happened that he’d
moved away, and the world went on without him? He was finding out, very quickly, he didn’t like it.

Excerpt:

How on earth was she supposed to explain spending the night out to her friends? Her heart told her to stay with Vince. It wasn’t as if they’d just met. Some of the students in the workshop had told her he’d had the hots for her, nevertheless, she’d insisted it was platonic. It took honesty on her part to admit she’d had a strong physical attraction to him. All these years her fairy-tale romance was right in front of her eyes, and she had looked past it to put her acting career first. Her whole world had revolved around the theater. How could she have lied to herself for so long? If she’d known her path would divert into a different direction, she might have done things differently. At the time, her goals had come before any form of romance. No more. Not this time. She was going for it. Full speed ahead, girl. So long regrets.

“You have no idea how much I want you, and I always have. You’re the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen. There is no other woman who can compare to you, Sadie.”

He trailed his tongue along her cheek and nibbled at her neck. Chills ran rampant through her body. Each gentle touch of his strong fingers along the inside of her thigh getting higher and higher. Sadie’s arousal escalated, and she wanted nothing more than to rip his clothes off. He made his way back up to her mouth, and she parted her lips to welcome his tongue. His passionate kiss intensified her longing to have all of him.

Excerpt:

Sigmund Zhao didn’t have a good memory. He was always forgetting things. He had barely scraped through Year Seven alive, trying to remember all those equations and diagrams in Science and Math. They kind of went in one ear and then out the other. It wasn’t just school either. Sigmund couldn’t remember a lot of things, like the different apartments and primary schools he had moved to all over Shanghai. He couldn’t even remember his mother’s birthday or even his own.

However he could remember one thing very well, the time his mother and father gave him the talk, the talk that no child wants to hear. It was the Divorce talk.

Sigmund remembered every word his mother had said.

‘I’m really sorry to tell you this, but your father and I are getting a divorce. Your father is going to move away for a while but this doesn’t mean he loves you any less. We are just not meant to be together.’

He remembered feeling alone and confused. He remembered crying for hours and hours. He even remembered shrinking down into the corner of the room, crawling like some sort of cockroach. Wait, that couldn’t be right. How could he have shrunk? That isn’t possible, is it?

But he did. He’d tried to hide away from it all, from the confusion and the pain. He’d felt himself shrinking smaller and smaller, then his arms had turned green and he felt things stretching out of his back. Yes, that happened but everything else was still cloudy.

Sigmund could hardly remember his father. There was just a hint of his voice echoing in the corner of his mind and a smell. He couldn’t quite remember what kind of smell, maybe a hint of pepper and something else. Something he had never smelt before. It was too weird a smell to be anything familiar. It was some sort of smell that didn’t belong in Shanghai, in fact it didn’t belong in China or the even the entire planet! It was a smell from out of this world!

Excerpt One:  from The Mapmaker’s Wife ~ Kathy L Wheeler

“Miss Ruthers?”

“Yes. It’s me, Mr. Williams.”

“Good heavens, you’ll catch your death.” He leaned over the edge, gripping the wood rail. She thought she caught concern, however fleeting. “You haven’t a coat.”

“No, Mr. Williams. I didn’t have much time, I’m afraid.”

“You’d best come in.” At his grim tone, she cast a glance to the bank of trees behind. “Now, Miss Ruthers. It’s freezing out.”

Clutching her torn shirt tighter with one hand, Elizabeth lifted her skirts with the other and trod up the wood stairs, head held high. Dignity was her only salvation. With a confidence she didn’t feel, she marched past him and into a kitchen a bit larger than the one she’d fled.

Dishes filled the sink and the floor needed a good sweeping. His limp seemed more pronounced as he filed in and hung the lantern on a hook next to the door. He shut it softly, staring at her all the while, arms folded over a broad chest.

The heat in the kitchen, after the cold night, seemed stifling and overwarm. His eyes moved over her, pausing at her throat where her frozen hand secured her shirt in a fist, rising back up to her damp hair, dripping puddles on the floor. She was so warm, she felt faint.

After a long pause, he asked, “Is there something you wish to tell me, Miss Ruthers?”

“I-I accept your proposal.”
